Day 12 Incredible India!!

2 September 2009
I stepped out of the guest house at 0800 hours  forChongkwangVihara temple for a mask dance performance which scheduled at 1000 hours. Seated along the street outside the temple, there was a bus stationed on the road selling milk.

This is a normal routine for the Kashmiri community in Leh every morning.

Along this street too, there was a bus pickup for the school kids.

I proceeded early to the temple for the mask dance performance to secure a good seat. Tourists started to stream in. There were latecomers whom would just sneak in the front row, but was eventually chased away with a loud ‘boos’ from the audience for being an ‘inconsiderate pest’s.

The performance was an eye opening but it felt very touristy. Monks in masks danced to the traditional music.

The audience were reminded not to clap at the end of each performance as this performance has a religious flavor to it.

Seated next to me is a Tibetan old lady who squeezed next to me and started praying with her prayer beads watching the performance.

Other monks were seen peeking though the door during the performance as well.

The show ended around 1230 hours.  I spend some time  around the premises before I make my way back to the guest house at 1330 to rest. The weather is extremely hot.
I left for the mosque at 1800 hours to break my fast, had dinner at Leh restaurant and performed my Ramadhanterawih prayers till 1000 hours. Turned in at 11pm.
