Day 01 Incredible India!!
A 22 days long and arduos journey into North India begun as I departed from Changi International Airport @ 1525 to catch a connecting flight at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for my destination to New Delhi . Flight MH 612 finally reached KLIA @ 1615.
My connecting fight was not due anytime soon. Walking around aimlessly, I stumbled upon this ‘good looking ‘ restaurant on the 3rd floor of the terminal.
The waiter gave a glancing smile while I am at it. “ Alright, alright, I got my shot. I’m outta here”.
Surprisingly, there were quite a lot of passengers wearing masks at the airport. But hasn’t the H1N1 flu virus has been diagnosed as the common flu now. Being a little paranoid or just being safe? Even the pharmacy store ran out of face masks. Oh My!!
The plane finally departed @1820 hours. Flight on board was generally smooth and it felt like I was traveling back in time with New Delhi 2 ½ hours behind.
It was the start of Ramadhan (Muslim abstain from eating and drinking from dusk till dawn) today and I break my fast for the first time on the plane. There was to be a scheduled announcement on the break fast time but it never came. The lady seated next to me has begun eating, but, but the sun has not set yet when I looked out the window…errrrr.
I reached Delhi International airport around 2130 hours. I recalled reading in the papers that this airport was listed as one of the 10 worst airports, but things were not as bad as it turn out to be.
My driver, Kashmir Singh was nowhere to be seen at the exit. Eventually, San found him standing at one corner carrying a small placard, SSS (SIN). SSS? Yes, San, Stan and Suhaimi, the three musketeers on this trip. Hooray!!
I bought a prepaid card from Airtel for use throughout my journey.
A baggage tout suddenly came into my view and loaded the luggage into the car without my permission. “ Excuse me sir, give me any money”. Hallloooo, I never asked you to do that. I ignored him and got on with my journey to Manali. Lesson 1: Never allow anyone to touch your belonging.
